Here is what I am trying to do in English:

If the text in cell A1 contains a question mark then return the number 1. If not, then return the number zero.

I tried some of the text functions nested inside the "if" statement and I just can't get it.

Thanks for your help.

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
Hi
if A1 has the string where you are searching for "?" then
B1 =IF(ISERROR(FIND("?",A1,1)), 0, 1)

Hi There

Perhaps something along the line of

=IF(ISERROR(FIND("?", A1)), 0, 1)

If there is no ? in the cell the FIND will return #VALUE, if there is a ? then the FIND returns it's place in the string so you could also use

=IF(FIND("?", A1)>0, 0, 1)

Hope this helps
