There are updated text import routines using the Data Manager in Excel 2016 and O365. There is also a Text Import Wizard. The new routines open a dialog box with the text file name at the top and, under that, have input boxes for File origin, Delimiter, and Data Type Detection. If you are in Excel 2016 or O365, you can get there on the Data tab and click in the Get & Transform Data group From Table/Range. If your data looks good, click LOAD at the bottom.
If you are using the Text Import Wizard which you can find by trying to open your text file directly from Excel, you'll get a dialog box that is gray colored and starts off at the top with "The Text Wizard has determined that your data...". If you are using that tool to import, just click Finish and you'll get Excel's best guess. But not looking at how your data will be imported will most likely cause you problems with your data.
Hope this helps.
