I have a string consisting of two words separated by a space. What i want to do is get the first letter of the second word. Is there a function which will return a character in a string if given an number?

HI - welcome to the board!

if all your text strings have exactly 2 words, try:

=MID(A1,FIND(" ",A1,1)+1,1)

if not, post back with a bit more info about your problem.
