Hello all,

I am just starting to use access and have the following question:
I'd like the user to insert a dat and time as follows: MM/DD HH:MM
but cannot get it done. it can be done as text but in the end I need to calculate the time difference between to dates/times, which is the second question.

Any ideas?

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
I agree with Bob.

Note: Month and day (MM/DD) is not a date. A date has three parts Month, day and year. MM/DD/YYYY.

It does not make any sense to me to not store a data and time without the year.

There are data entry tricks to make this very easy for the user to enter a date. For example, I like to use a date/time picker form.

Here are some additional resources that might be helpful:

You guys are right about the year-part.
The main question however was is there a wa, like in excel, to set a date and time together in the same cell [inputbox] and then to calculate the difference between 2 of these cells or do I need to store the date and time separately.

Bob is spot on. Storing the date and time in one field is a key to success (=>happiness) in Access.
