Total column in pivot table - can it use a different calculation to the other cells?

I have a pivot table showing dates exams are passed - this is done using the max function to find the latest date. This is great but I want the total column to show a count of the columns with dates in (ie the number of exams completed) rather than the max date which is meaningless in this context. There is an image of the pivot below (3 times as I couldn't work out how to delete them). I would be very grateful for any help.
