Transposing References

I have data like this:

I want to reference:

-----A-----B-----C-----D
6--A1-----A2---A3----A4


I have a long list so is there any way to do this without doing it manually?

You can use a formula like this:

=INDEX($A:$A,COLUMN(A1)-COLUMN($A1)+1)

and copy it across.
