I am copy and pasting some data in excel from the web. Some of the data is listed as with 2 numbers in the same row like this 20/30. I can get those put in different cells easy enough except when the numbers are something like this
9/12. Excel changes it automatically into a date and I haven't figured out how to get back to the original numbers. If I click on the cell that is now a date and switch the formatting back to a number it gives a completely different number.

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
Assuming the 9/12 is in cell A1, try the following formulae to extract the two numbers:

=TEXT(A1,"d")
=TEXT(A1,"m")
