Hi guys,

First of all, I am glad to be part of this great community.

I've Column A which contains 300 company names, and column B contains 50 company names. I want excel to highlight any company name match from column B.

Excel is only allowing me to do one cell at a time. When I select cells from column B, it is giving me an error, "you cannot use the direct reference to worksheet range in conditional format"

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Excel Facts

Shade all formula cells
To shade all formula cells: Home, Find & Select, Formulas to select all formulas. Then apply a light fill color.
Can you explain that again?
Is it to highlight a cell in column A if it appears also in column B, or the other way around?

Are columns A and B on separate sheets? Conditional formatting won't let you refer to cells on another sheet. To work around this, create a named range which refers to the range on the other sheet.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, you are correct. I want to high light cells in column A if it matches any cell in column B.

Column A and B are on the same sheet. I have already tried this method and it doesn't work.

Is a VBA solution, using macros, suitable for you?

I´m not much of a formula fan...

It the columns are on the same sheet try conditional formatting using your custom formula. After selecting cells in column A and choosing Conditional formatting create a formula:
=COUNTIF(B:B;A1)>=1
It should work.

Yes, it works, very simple.

I' ll not have the chance to write my macro... :stickouttounge:
