trying to find the highest value in array

Been working on finding the highest value in a worksheet that has 5 columns and 7 rows of data that looks like this:
1/2"-P-A1-32105

I used an array to load this, and another one to read across it to find the highest value which would be the first column: 1/2"

A B C D
1/2" P A1 38524
10" P A1 38524
12" P A1 38524

If I can get the code right, what would be reported is: 12"-P-A1-38524
But using a conditional operator on a string is not working. My Code looks like the following:
