Unable to refresh pivot table

I have read many forums that address the issue of not being able to update a pivot table, but none have helped.

Each time I click "refresh all", I am given this message:
"This command requires at least two rows of source data. You cannot use the command on a selection in only one row."

I have attempted to correct this by changing source data and I still receive the same error message. When I try to change source data it goes back to my spreadsheet and only highlights one row. No matter how many times i select the entire sheet, it continues to show one row. I have also tried deleting the pivot table and starting a new one.

I do not seem to be experiencing problems in any other spreadsheets. It is also not feasible for me to copy my source data into another sheet and start over because I have around 8 seperate pivot tables linked to it with numerous formulas coming from each table.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
I finally found the solution to this problem. Three of my eight tables were not pulling the correct source data. I was trying to select the entire sheet by dragging and it would always go back to one row. The solution was to select the entire sheet through the keyboard shortcut ctrl+A. I am not sure what caused the error or why dragging to select the sheet didn't work. :)
