I'm trying to get links in a "master" document to update the data from the "source" documents, however, even after pressing update, in the Edit links settings, and making sure, automatic is selected they won't update, the only way i can get the values to update is if i open the "source" document, then the values update in the "master" but i don't want to have to open all the "source" documents, i just want to update the data from them, do i have to go back to using a query?

Excel Facts

Pivot Table Drill Down
Double-click any number in a pivot table to create a new report showing all detail rows that make up that number
ok i've narrowed the problem down

the "source" excel files are google doc spreadsheets, which are converted using "gladinet cloud drive" then i use a free sync software to copy from the cloud drive (W:) to my local hard drive as a one way backup every 5 minutes.

From there i open the "source" file that's copied onto my local hard drive, and link it into the "master", it works to link in, but then when i open the "master" file again it says Error: File not found after it's been replaced by the new file copied from google. Unless i open the "source" file.

Does excel put some magic little token in the excel file when it's being linked to? I must be missing this from the source files coming from google every five minutes
