Use of a shape in concatenated formula

I currently use a concatenated formula that provides an outcome along the lines of "162 up", for example. I would like to replace the word "up" with an upward pointing arrow.

Is it possible to write a concatenated formula such that it uses a shape (from Excel 2007) rather than the term "up"?

I've just given this a try but I couldn't make the CF arrow work for a cell with a formula. maybe someone else can make this work with CF.

There's a good example within Excel Templates. Do the following:
1. Choose "New Workbook" from "Office button (Left Top Icon)"
2. Template Selection Menu will appear
3. Choose "Installed Templates"
4. Choose "Personal Monthly Budget"

See if this is what you mean.

1. Select a vacant cell.
2. Insert ribbon tab|Symbol|click the Subset drop-down and choose 'Arrows'|select an up arrow|Insert|Close
3. In the formula bar select the arrow and Copy then exit that cell.
4. In your formula cell, type the formula you want and Paste the arrow where you want it.

I've repeated for a down arrow as well.

C1 formula:
=ABS(B1-A1)&IF(B1> A1," ?",IF(B1< A1," ?",""))

Hi

Same as Peter's solution, you can also use the Black Up-Pointing Triangle

Thanks, almost there I think.

Using Excel 2007, I don't seem to have the options you have identified. I can select Insert/Shapes/Block Arrows and then select my arrow of choice (eg Up Arrow 16). I can then copy that to a worksheet but I have no idea how to then paste it to my formula?

The best I have been able to achieve so far is to simply copy the arrow you have in your answer and then paste it to my formula. That works but it is not the arrow I wish to use.

To emphasise, the Insert|Symbol is on the very right hand side of the Insert ribbon. It is in a group called 'Symbols'

The best I have been able to achieve so far is to simply copy the arrow you have in your answer and then paste it to my formula. That works but it is not the arrow I wish to use.
Using the method I have suggested, you will have limited choice about the shapes to use.

Again, thank you.

When I select a symbol (eg Wingdings3:112) and copy it to a blank cell, it shows as I would expect it to but the formula bar simply shows it as the letter 'P'. When I then paste it into my formula, of course, it pastes as the letter 'p' not an upward triangle.

What am I doing?

Don't use Wingdings, use the font you are already using. You can't use Wingdings because you want to use this arrow in a cell as part of a formula. You can't format part of a formula cell with one font and another part with a different font.

What font are you using as your standard font?
