Using a numerical value to reference a cell

I think this relatively simple but somehow I can't figure it out. In column A I have formulas which result in simple numbers, i.e.

3

In column B, I want to reference the cell in column E row - whatever is in A. So, in the above example, I want B1 = E2, B2 = E4, B3 = E3. How do I use the value in A as a cell row reference in a formula in B?

=INDEX(E:E,A1)

or

=INDIRECT("E"&A1)

One way...

=INDEX(E:E,A1)

Copy down as needed.

Thanks for the feedback. It would be better to use the INDEX formula if you have a lot of these as INDIRECT is volatile (recalculates every time the sheet calculates).
