Using Drop down menus in a protected sheet (with a difference)

Hi all,

First post to the forum (so go easy on me :) )

I have a protected workbook which has to be filled out by various people. As always we want to restrict the amount that they can change so the only cells that are unlocked are the ones they need to type their figures into and the ones with drop down menus. It seems though that if you type something into an empty cell you can then copy and paste it over the cell with the drop down menu, resulting in some very messed up data!

Does anyone know of any ways of changing the protection settings so that they can still select from the menu but not paste or write anything over it?

Would appreciate any help. Thanks

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
