#Value!

I have a worksheet (Summary) where certain cells refer to cells in another worksheet (Detail). (A worksheet to calculate how much was spent from budget for a number of departments.)

On the Summary sheet, I am trying to total a column of numbers (spent) and (balance) I am using =Sum and ctrl and selecting the cells of choice (The cells in the spent column are referring to cells in the "detail" worksheet.)

I am getting a #Value! error and also notice that rather than incidating individual cell locations, the formula is recording "num1, num2, num 3"...

What might be my solution to getting a numeric result in my total rather than #Value! ?
