This should be an easy one - I'm still a bit new to VBA.

When D9 is clicked, I'm wanting whatever is in the cell to be cleared. The cell is actually a searchable data validation list, so I'm wanting the user to be able to see the full list every time they click the little arrow, and not the reduced list based on what has been typed into the cell. Hope that makes sense.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Use Data, What-If Analysis, Goal Seek to find the correct input cell value to reach a desired result
You can use worksheet_selection change event perhaps. Something like:

VBA Code:
If not (Intersect(Target,Range("D9")) is Nothing) Then
    Range("D9").Value =""
End If
