How do I deal with files that come from the My Documents folder when the My Documents folder is on a shared server?

for example, I have a variable DataDir that usually takes on the path of the current file such as "R:\MyFolder\MySubFolder"

However, when the user selects a file from their My Documents folder, the variable DataDir is something like
"\\sharedservername\users\username\subfolder"

and then my code bombs out when I do:

ChDrive DataDir

Thanks in Advance,

BTA
