very difficult Vlookup question

I have the following problem.

i have 1 workbook(book1) with numbers in column A in column B must be a description which stands in another workbook, the other workbook consists of 20 sheets.

the vlookup should look in all the sheets in the workbook and if the number is found put it in book1 column B next tot the number


is it possible to use vlookup across several sheets in 1 workbook.?

I would say it's possible using VB - you would need to find a MATCH of the number - then return the address of that match - and then copy and paste it to the MAIN sheet.

The easiest way (as far as I know) would be to use multiple embedded loops to loop through the sheets etc, and then when a match is found to exit loop. (Do While...)

Someone may be able to post you an example, alternatively send me a simple (small version) and I will rustle something up.
