Hi everyone!

I have been ripping out my hair trying to figure out why excel keeps capturing my table header in the VLOOKUP formula. When I select the array from D2 to AA720, excel will always convert these number to the Header Names.

For example:

=VLOOKUP(C2,Table16(Contact):[Release Date]],1,False)

Please help! My job depends on it!

Best,

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
Welcome to the MrExcel board!

As well as the question above ..
=VLOOKUP(C2,Table16(Contact):[Release Date]],1,False)
  • .. that is not a valid formula. Did you mean this instead?
    Excel Formula:
    =VLOOKUP(C2,Table16[[Contact]:[Release Date]],1,FALSE)

  • If you are only looking in column 1 of the array, why do you want 24 columns (D:AA) in the array?

  • In general, if you are looking up values in a table, what is wrong with using the structured reference style with the header names included?

  • If you really don't want the headers in the formula, don't select D2:AA720, just type it into the formula.

If you still need more help, what about you show/tell us more about just what you have and what you are trying to achieve?
XL2BB might help with that (but use a small set of sample data, not 720 rows).
