I have a master spreadsheet we will call Database that runs a V lookup off of an external workbook (referred to as EW). Everything was working fine when i built the spreadsheet but then when i rebuilt the spreadsheet on the company "shared Drive" something went wrong.

if the EW is not open then the database will not pull information from it. What is the formula that I need to have the Database pull informaiton through a vlookup from the closed EW?

Excel Facts

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
It sounds like there is nothing wrong with your formula, if it used to work. It sounds like you have done something odd to the EW workbook.

Show a single VLOOKUP formula that's trying to get data from the closed EW workbook, please? And check that the EW workbook has been saved as an Excel workbook ... look at the Save As options for it, and check the format. ( a file can have been renamed to be an extension of .xls even when it is actually something else, e.g. csv. )
