Hi, I want a vlookup which will read a different column if the 1st column is blank. I'm using the formula below, but it's returning #NA if the original column is blank and doesn't seem to be reading the alternate column.

=IF(VLOOKUP([@[Arrangement Status]],'Status Look-up'!A:B,2,FALSE)=" ",VLOOKUP([@[Submission Status]],'Status Look-up'!A:B,2,FALSE),VLOOKUP([@[Arrangement Status]],'Status Look-up'!A:B,2,FALSE))

thank you

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
Hi & welcome to MrExcel.
If you mean that the arrangement status isn't found try submission status, then try
Excel Formula:
=IFNA(VLOOKUP([@[Arrangement Status]],'Status Look-up'!A:B,2,FALSE),VLOOKUP([@[Submission Status]],'Status Look-up'!A:B,2,FALSE))

Brilliant, thank you for your quick response. The formula worked!
