thank you for your help todate.

I am still having a little trouble fully understanding the vlookup formula to the enth degree. I want to match exactly the name of the lookup value, there are other names in table array as below
lookup value Australia Mobile
Names table array
Australia
Australia Adelaide
Australia Mobile
Australia Sydney

any ideas
