can vlookup, look up 2 cells and search same table

type in A1 and A4 B1 shows result

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
Might just be me but, duplicate?

Phill, you need to be more accurate in describing you problem, remember you have the information in front of you, we don't... so type in A1 and A4 B1 shows result doesn't mean anything to us. Maybe a screenshot or some examples of before and after results in your original thread you started for this question someone may be able to help.
