Wacky date display

I started an excel spreadsheet with one column formatted for dates. Everything has worked just fine until today. I made some changes to an adjacent column (data validation name range change). Now for some reason all of the dates in my date column are displayed in native excel 5-digit number format (40446). When I click on an individual cell, the proper date format is displayed. (9/25/2010). When I go to format cells, the proper date format is in place.
Please help!!
