Weird SUM problem

I have SUMmed a column of numbers which are all formatted as currency ($). This column is similar to about 10 others. Each of the other columns sum correctly, but for this one column the result posted is always blank. If I copy the adjacent cell it displays the value of that cell (i.e. - the SUM of the adjacent column). If I select 'fx' it shows the correct value.

I have changed the format of the column to 'number' which makes no difference. Ditto for 'Custom'.

Any ideas what's going on?

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
Hi, thanks for taking an interest in this, but I am looking for someone who has had the same problem and found the solution. I've been using Excel since it was first released by MS so believe me I have tried all possible solutions. Somehow the sheet is corrupted and I am looking to recover it without having to delete the column and re-entering the data.

How can we guess which is the problem if you don't tell us which formula do you use?

Bye

Is it possible that the sum is 0 but you have display of zero values turned off?

What happens when you do this:

Select the cell in question
Change the cell format to GENERAL
Hit function key F2
Hit ENTER

Well I never had your issue but issues lot more wired and stranger, so what I did was clicked on HELP, select Detect and repair, what it did was to brought MS office to original state, be warned though it does ask you if you want to loose all your changes made to default or something to that effect, so please read the prompt carefully .

I did tell you the function: '=SUM(ad3:ad66)' (although why the range is important I'm not sure).

You could try reducing the range of the SUM until it starts working to narrow down which cells have a problem. For example, does =SUM(ad3:ad4) work?
