What am I doing that is stupid

Hi All,

If in cell A1 I have a number e.g. 10

And in cell B1 I want to have a sum that divides A1 by 2 and displays the answer.

A1 = 10

B1 has a formula
=A1/2

I thought would work - it didn't.

I have since tried:

=A1/2
=(A1)/2
=sum(A1)/2
=sum(A1/2)

What am I doing wrong here - I get no error messages just the formula in the cell (like above) appears in B1.

This should not even be excel formula 101 but I cannot seem to figure anything out :banghead:
