A1 cell contains text - BLUE BOATS

=(A1="*BLUE*)

Returns false but should return true, why would this not be working?

Excel Facts

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
Try;

=ISNUMBER(SEARCH("Blue",A1))

If 'Blue' contains anywhere in A1 will return TRUE, otherwise FALSE.

thanks that worked.

One more question if I wanted to use multiple text, say "BLUE", "RED", "YELLOW" how would I include in formula?

If you just have 3 text try;

=OR(ISNUMBER(SEARCH({"Blue","Red","Yellow"},A1)))

If you have more text enter those text in a cells like below & try;

<b>Excel 2007</b><table cellpadding="2.5px" rules="all" style=";background-color: #FFFFFF;border: 1px solid;border-collapse: collapse; border-color: #A6AAB6"><colgroup><col width="25px" style="background-color: #E0E0F0" /><col /><col /><col /><col /></colgroup><thead><tr style=" background-color: #E0E0F0;text-align: center;color: #161120"><th></th><th>A</th><th>B</th><th>C</th><th>D</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">1</td><td style=";">BLUE BOATS</td><td style="text-align: right;;">TRUE</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style=";">Blue</td></tr><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">2</td><td style=";">Green BOATS</td><td style="text-align: right;;">FALSE</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style=";">Yellow</td></tr><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">3</td><td style=";">yellow BOATS</td><td style="text-align: right;;">TRUE</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style=";">Red</td></tr><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">4</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style=";">Orange</td></tr><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">5</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style=";">White</td></tr></tbody></table><p style="width:3.6em;font-weight:bold;margin:0;padding:0.2em 0.6em 0.2em 0.5em;border: 1px solid #A6AAB6;border-top:none;text-align: center;background-color: #E0E0F0;color: #161120">Sheet4</p><br /><br /><table width="85%" cellpadding="2.5px" rules="all" style=";border: 2px solid black;border-collapse:collapse;padding: 0.4em;background-color: #FFFFFF" ><tr><td style="padding:6px" ><b>Worksheet Formulas</b><table cellpadding="2.5px" width="100%" rules="all" style="border: 1px solid;text-align:center;background-color: #FFFFFF;border-collapse: collapse; border-color: #A6AAB6"><thead><tr style=" background-color: #E0E0F0;color: #161120"><th width="10px">Cell</th><th style="text-align:left;padding-left:5px;">Formula</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><th width="10px" style=" background-color: #E0E0F0;color: #161120">B1</th><td style="text-align:left">=ISNUMBER(<font color="Blue">LOOKUP(<font color="Red">2^15,SEARCH(<font color="Green">$D$1:$D$5,A1</font>)</font>)</font>)</td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></table><br />
