I am creating a "schedule" on excel at work and some of the processes take 0.5 days or 0.25 days. so how do i write my formula to make sure that my next process date will be correct on my schedule. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
I am currently using workday function but when the number of days is a fraction it doesn't calculate correctly whether it's .25 days or .5 days. Excel will assume these to be a whole day<o:p></o:p>

Excel Facts

Fastest way to copy a worksheet?
Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.

The WORKDAY function ignores fractional parts of numbers.

For example:

A1 = 7/13/2011
B1 = 0.25

=WORKDAY(A1,B1)

Returns 7/13/2011

What result do you expect when the number of days (B1) is less than a full day?

=NETWORKDAYS(A1,A2)-1-A1+A2

Should do the trick.

Why are you subtracting 1?
And by the way i am not including holidays which would look like this =networkdays(A1,A2,holidays) where the holidays is a range of dates which has been named holidays,

I hope the above table helps to clarify things....So i know what my ship date should be and each process eg. inspect has 0.25days to complete the process before moving to the next process ect. so i am actually working backwards.
Remember i exclude weekends and holidays .... which works fine in my formular. however, i would expect that inspection and installing should both be completed on the same day since both processes take less than a day to complete. according to my formular ====
=workday(G3,-F2,holiday) excel assumes whole days rather than fractions of a day..... how do i modify this formula to work as i want and output a date after considering that the process does not take a whole day.

Can't you just get the sum total of all processes and then round that result either up or down to a full day?

Based on the posted sample the total process time is 3.25 days. How do you want to deal with the .25 day? Round the total up to 4 or round it down to 3?

Why are you subtracting 1?
And by the way i am not including holidays which would look like this =networkdays(A1,A2,holidays) where the holidays is a range of dates which has been named holidays,
Oh silly me, I forgot something rather crucial:
=networkdays(A1,A2)+mod(A2-A1,1)-1

The -1 is because it counts partial days as full days.

If the difference is 4.25 days it'll be =5 + 0.25 - 1

Try this formula in B3

=WORKDAY($G3,-INT(SUM(B2:$F2)))

format as date and copy to F3

This worked wonderfully... Thank you so much:)

Two more questions though.... hope you can help me out.

1. Why is that when i copied the formula across the row there was an error alert saying that the formula omits adjacent cells..... mind you the results are correct. i did check

2. Instead of having the formula output the start date for the process, can the formula be modified to output the end date for the process?
the reason for this is that i am tring to use visual aid (highlight in red) when a process has not been completed by today's date

If you need clarification please let me know so i can use a completed table to explain myself a lot better.

My apologies, I only just realized I was trying to do the exact opposite of what you were requesting. I guess I need more coffee.

1: The reason an error is given is because the function is calculating the sum of a part of a range. Excel recognizes B2:F2 as a range so if you only sum C2:F2 it'll try to tell you that you forgot to include B2 (regardless of your intention). You can ignore the error.

2: Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the start time of the second process also the end time for the first? Just insert a row below and enter =C3 in cell B4.
