Why does Excel put in xfln in front of my lookup formula occasionally and return #NAME?

=_xlfn.XLOOKUP(TRUE,B1:B3000<>"",B1:B3000,,,-1)

Doesn't always do it.

Version 16.84 (24041420) for Mac

This file was created in 2023 and I've had Office 365 or Microsoft 365 for years, so I would think from the reference that it should be working?
Where to turn next if I am correct?

hm.. that's strange. What happens if you just retype the formula?
Also, what's the xl extension? Make sure it's not one of the prior extensions like 97-2004.

Most of the time it opens correctly, but about 10% of time does not
