Xml mapping export gets error list of lists

I have an excel 2007 spreadsheet that exports xml using an xml map. It works fine. It has one row of order info with one row of headers above it. So it has a supplier, buyer, ordernumber, item number, qty, etc. There is only one order of one item. Each header above each output cell has the list down arrow at the right of the header. When I click the highlighted mapped fields in the xml source, the corresponding cell in the sheet is highlighted. When I export, the fields that I mapped show up in the xml. Everything is normal.

I have to migrate the export functionality to another spreadsheet. Same xml map. So I created the one row of headers and one row of order info. And I added the same xml map to the new sheet. So the xml schema should be fine. Then I mapped the data by dragging the output xml fields to the corresponding header of each source field. When I do that, the header is changed to include the list drop down arrow just like the sheet that works. When I 'validate map' in the new sheet, it gets "cannot export, lists of lists and relationships cannot be preserved.

What am I doing wrong? Do I have to map in a certain order? Or am I mapping repeating when I shouldn't be? But isn't the working sheet mapped as repeating since it has the list down arrows on the headers?

I would attach sample, but I don't see any attach options. thanks.

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
