I have a basic bar graph showing the average home prices per quarter. I know I can turn the legend on and position it to show the average price on top of each bar in the graph. I would like to add an additional legend (on this chart) showing how many homes sold per quarter but not display it as a bar. I just want the number displayed maybe on the bar or below the bar. Can I add a separate (extra) legend?

Brilliant! Don't you love it when you find a creative solution. Sorry, I misunderstood that you were after axis labels rather than in-plot labels. Ignore everything I wrote.

I'm also impressed with the camera tool for quickly pasting in a hot-linked cell(s) anywhere. It's unique in that it behaves as a moveable independent object rather than say, embedding in a chart. A "hammer looking for a nail" at the moment.

Excel Facts

Pivot Table Drill Down
Double-click any number in a pivot table to create a new report showing all detail rows that make up that number
No no - I was looking for in-graph labels - they're currently sitting in the top of each bar, would work find for a line or scatter graph too. The secondary axis labels are no longer visible.

I agree with you about the camera tool - I've never used it, and I've got a feeling that it's one of those things that would probably be very useful, but because I'm not familiar with it, it's quicker to find another work-around! Definitely a hammer looking for a nail!

Hi,

I am having a chart for month over month comparison of costs.
I want to add explanations for cost movements in the chart.
These should appear only when the mouse pointer is moved over a particular point.

Is this possible using VBA / add in / any other method.

Thanks and Regards,
Sangram

Thanks a lot Jon. This is exactly what I was looking for.
One question is MS excel MVP a certification ? How does one go for it ?

That's a great help. Thanks once again for the help.
