I have all of my data stored in an Access database. I use Excel to link to a query and build a pivot table to report the data. My problem is that when I have the database open I can't refresh the data in the pivot table OR when I refresh the pivot table and then try to open that database I can only open it in "Read-Only" mode.

Is there any way that I can have both application open simultaneously and be able to edit in either one?

Thanks

Fastest way to copy a worksheet?
Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.
Unfortunately, no. Each application will lock the other once you connect.

You could use code to pull the data into Excel and break the connection; I regularly use this approach when multiple users need to transfer data between Excel and Access. See here for a tutorial.
