Accessing Excel 2003 Files

For the past couple of days when i try and open any excel sheet from a folder it only opens a grey screen and i then have to open the file by file/open and searching for it .

Hope this makes sense and one of you gurus can help

Make sure "Ignore other applications" is *not* selected.

It's under Tools\Options\General
