In using ADO/SQL between access and excel, how would I just return (fill as excel variable) the "count" from the SQL, rather than all of the records?

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
One option is to write the SQL Statement simply to get the count:

Code:
SELECT COUNT(MyField) From MyTable;
This could be nested around your original query:
Code:
SELECT COUNT(T.ID)
FROM
(SELECT MyTable.ID FROM MyTable) As T

With recordsets there is a count property but it's differently supported. Just try it and see:

x = MyRecordset.RecordCount

If its not accurate (or zero), try to make sure you've gotten access to all the records first:

Code:
MyRecordset.MoveLast
MyRecordset.MoveFirst
x = MyRecordset.Count
