Agh! Why when I save, does it not save?

I've been constantly having this problem and it really bugs me. When I click the save button, I see the progress bar run across and it seems to save completely with no issues. If I look at the timestamp on the file, it updates the 'Date modified' field to the current time.

BUT then right after it has 'saved', if I click the x button in the corner to close the file, it asks 'Do you want to save the changes you made?'. This is implying that the file isn't saved, or something has changed since I last saved it (which nothing has).

All the saves are going through fine, I just wish that when I closed the file it would recognize that it has already been saved. Any ideas? This happens with many different workbooks, so it isn't a specific file that has issues.
