I would like to allow end uses to enter data but not move cells around or mess with their formatting. I am very surprised that Excel can't do this out of the box since it's such an obvious thing that people would want to do. I have searched the web and found other people asking similar questions many times, but the answers are never complete and usually involve macros that don't work when I try them.
On my worksheet, the locked cells are adequately protected, which is great. However, other cells must remained unlocked to allow data entry. Users are allowed to damage unlocked cells in the following ways (in Excel 2010):
A) Cut/copy/paste
B) Format painting
C) Moving cells by dragging
A truly protected spreadsheet should work like this for unlocked cells:
1) Copy -> paste automatically pastes values only, protecting the formatting of the destination cells
2) Cut -> paste secretly copies, pastes value, and then clears the original cell, protecting formatting and more important, the formulas that reference any of the involved cells
3) Cells are not allowed to be moved, once again protecting both formatting and formulas referencing those cells
4) Format painter is disabled
Can anyone help with this? I would happily settle for disabling cut, copy, and paste instead of the more complicated stuff I described in 1 and 2.
Thanks!
