hello,

i work with an ERP system that sends data to excel with the click of a button, very cool.

one of the exports use to put the data into a spreadsheet and then automatically graphs it.

in the latest release, it no longer draws the graph - am looking for an excel setting that does this - no luck...

any idea?

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Your question is too vague to get an answer. Maybe if you help to specify a few things someone can help:

1. What ERP System are you using?
2. How does the export work? Do you have an Add In? External Connection?
4. Is the Graph an Excel Graph? Is it a Picture? Does it use the data and ranges from the export? What do you mean by automatically graphs it?

hey,
thanks for the reply. The ERP is Syteline. There is an aspect where it creates data points in a small table for KPI's. From within Syteline ERP, there is a button, Export to Excel. it USE to be that excel would fire up, the data appears in excel and the standard graph is built (not a picture).

so, there is nothing added to excel - Syteline (an Infor product) - is SQL based and many connections to microsoft products.

I am unsure how to fix the issue you reference. It sounds like the problem lies in the ERP system. It seems as if, when your software was updated the ERP system provider removed this functionality.

If you have a sample of the KPI table that exports into MS Excel I'm sure someone can help you to automate a chart or graph once the information is in MS Excel.

Thanks Again for looking at my issue. I have been working with Infor - (ERP vendor); they say this is a feature of excel and looks like you've looked into and say it isn't a feature of excel - i'll put it back in their lap - this is not a biggie - but it was a cool factor when doing the training classes.... A shiny thing as it were.

thanks again!

ikoiko,

I hope you are able to get your issue solved. Interested to hear what the ERP provider says. I may be completely wrong, but I have not personally seen MS Excel chart data without some sort of automation (ofcourse, this is just my personal experience). Maybe some other members can shed more light on this ERP data export feature/function.
