Is there a built in function that I can type in a cell to show the current date each time I open up the spreadsheet?

Thx.

Welcome to the Board!

Here's one approach:

Hit ALT+F11 to open the VB Editor (VBE) and double-click the "ThisWorkbook" module. Post the following code in the window that opens on the right:

EDIT: Reposted the code:
Code:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
    ' Change Sheet name and range to suit
    Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A1") = Date
End Sub
Hit F5 to run the code and Alt+Q to exit the VBE.

Hope that helps,

Have a look at the now() function. This will return the current date and time and is updated automatically whenever the workbook is recalculated.
