what I have in column B
COST1
COST1
COST1
COST2
COST2
COST3

the result in column A should be

1 COST1
1 COST1
1 COST1
2 COST2
2 COST2
3 COST3
3 COST3
3 COST3
3 COST3
and if I delete or filter one of them shouldn't affect , just keeping the numbers

Excel Facts

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
thanks
is there any way do that without helper column?

I don't know of any way. If you had Office 365, that would be a different story. (It could be possible.)
