Hello,

I am new to Excel but I know how to compile basic functions. Here is what I am trying to do. I have 2 sheets currently.

Sheet 1:

Name Week Score
John 1 3
John 1 2
Mary 2 1
Mary 2 3
John 2 5
John 2 1

Sheet 2 (Week 1 Average):

Name Average
John ??????

On another sheet, labeled "Week 1 Average" I will have a list of names in column A with Average score in column B. Is there a way to construct a function that will be able to lookup the the name listed in Column A, average ONLY the week 1 scores from the first sheet and input the average into Column B on sheet 2? I could create another sheet and average Week 2 on it and so forth.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!!!

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).

Hi and welcome.

Try

=AVERAGEIFS(Sheet1!$C$2:$C$50, Sheet1!$A$2:$A$50, A2, Sheet1!$B$2:$B$50, 1)

A1: 1

A3: John

B3:

If you are on Excel 2007 or later...

=AVERAGEIFS(Sheet1!$C$2:$C$7,Sheet1!$A$2:$A$7,A3,Sheet1!$B$2:$B$7,$A$1)

Othwerwise...

=AVERAGE(IF(Sheet1!$A$2:$A$7=A3,IF(Sheet1!$B$2:$B$7=$A$1,Sheet1!$C$2:$C$7)))

which must be confirmed with control+shift+enter, not just enter.

Sorry for not stating. I am using Excel 2010.
Ok...

Book1
ABC
1NameWeekScore
2John13
3John12
4Mary21
5Mary23
6John25
7John21
Sheet1

On Sheet2...

A2 = some name
B2 = 1 (the week number)

Enter this formula in B2:

=AVERAGEIFS(Sheet1!C$2:C$7,Sheet1!A$2:A$7,A2,Sheet1!B$2:B$7,B2)
