Hi

Just upgraded to Excel 2010 and finding it a bit funny, I also just have Excel starter at the moment which has done some strange things (Like frozen when I change location of a chart to a sheet).

Though my main issue is frustrating me a bit as I used to import and display a hell of a lot of time/date-stamped data in Excel 2007 with some little glitches and issues now and again, but nothing that was this stubborn.

Simply I have a scatter plot and in the data the first column is a simple time stamp then the values following like:

Time, WS1, WS2
12:00 AM, 32, 22
12:30 AM, 34, 21
01:00 AM, 33, 43
01:30 AM, 23, 41

For the example the second two columns are wind speed readings.
The time is plotted along the X Axis and since the wind-speed uses the same units, it is plotted as a scatter plot (Joined by lines) by lines, which shows two lines.

Simply the times on the X axis are obscure and they are not the dates from the column, falling between the data points on the lines rather than
corresponding as you would usually expect for a visual chart.

Excel help says used the ''catagory axis'' for date and time.
Any ideas on what is causing this as I have formatted the axis and the data in the same format.

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
Maybe right click the X axis, select Format Axis and set the axis scaling. I used

min 0
max 0.07
major unit 0.02083333 (=1/48 = half an hour in Excel time)

Thanks Peter, it worked though now the graph only shows the first 4 readings, and the rest of it continues off the graph.

I have never had this issue before .

----Just an update-----

This worked
major unit - 0.02083333
minor unit- 0.02083333
min auto
max auto

Thanks, you have inspired me to learn a bit more about how the time in excel charts and excel in general operates.

Cheers

Hi

You can also specify the values using time notation, excel will then convert the values automatically. For ex.:

min 0:0
max 5:0
major unit 0:30
