Best Hardware for Excel to run large files

I have many files over 100MB that I have to deal with on daily basis and they are extremely slow to calculate and save. While Access may be a better solution, I need to be able to run these files in Excel for now.

I currently have:
Processor-Intel Core2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz 2.54 GHz
RAM-4GB of RAM (3.45GB usable)
System-32 bit

What can I do to optimize the speed of Excel? Are there any hardware configurations that will help? Is there a certain point where no matter what I add to my hardware, Excel won't go any faster?

Thanks
