I know I’ve done this before but I cannot for the life of me remember how to do it.

Example of what I’m trying to do;

A1 = “Apples” then lookup Sheet1, within column A, find matches, then calculate the sum of values in column B.

So if Sheet1 has three rows that contain “Apples” in column A, and each of them has a value of “3” in column B, then add the total numerical value of column B to equal ”9”

How is this done?

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
That does indeed seem to be the correct formula to use, but it presents another problem it seems.

When I go to sort the data collected from the formula in sequence (smallest to largest) it is not in any logical order. The cells are all numbers and not text. Why is there a problem sorting the data?
