Yes or No Can Excel be stopped once it is calculating? I have very large spreadsheets. Once they start to recalculate it can take forever. Can it be stopped? How do I stop Excel once it has started to recalculate? Please do not explain how to stop a macro. This about multiple formulas taking too long. There are no macros or VB involved.

Just how long are we talking about?

Note that if your workbooks are taking an extremely long time to calculate, it is often a sign that you may be pushing the limits of Excel, and may be using the wrong tool for the job. Many times, I see people try to use Excel as a Relational Database, so they have sheets and sheets of data linked together with VLOOKUPS and/or INDEX/MATCH functions.

While Excel *can* do that, it is often clunky and inefficient, as that is not really what Excel was designed for. If you find yourself in this situation, it may be time to investigate using a better tool for the job, a Relational Database program like Micrsoft Access or SQL (or MySQL).
