Categories in one column, summing them in another

I have a spreadsheet that has categories in one column and the total for that category in another column. Is there a way I can keep a total per category?

eg:

er 67
er 38
yt 21
yt 6

Totals:

er = 105
yt= 27

Sorry, What if I don't know the names of the categories? I do know that they will be all clumped together.
