Does anyone know how to name cells that are specific to a worksheet? ie. so you can use the same name on different worksheets and each name refers to a range in the worksheet. When you have a name that is specific to the sheet, will show a worksheet in the defined name, but I don't know how you set up a name so that it comes up this way. Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

andrew - it worked, that's awesome. thanks for your help.
aladin - andrew's instructions work great.
To do what you were asking you'd:
1. Select cell A1 on Sheet1.
2. Insert|Name|Define...
3. Enter "Sheet1!Billy" in the define names box.
4. Click OK
1. Select cell B10 on Sheet2.
2. Insert|Name|Define...
3. Enter "Sheet2!Billy" in the define names box.
4. Click OK

Works great, thanks again Andrew.

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).

Andrew - you're right, thanks for your help.
Aladin - follow andrew's instructions, go to sheet 1 and define "Sheet1!Billy" in the Names in Workbook box and refers to =Sheet1!A1 , and then go to Sheet 2 and define the name "Sheet2!Billy" in the Names in Workbook box and refers to Sheet2!B10.

Thanks again Andrew. This one has been stumping me for a long time.

Aladin,

On Sheet1 =Billy returns the reference to the name on Sheet1. While =Sheet2!Billy returns the reference to the name on Sheet2.

I hope!

Curious as to why you need the same name in each sheet? Seems like asking for an error unseen.

It allows me to lookup the same thing in various worksheets with varying structures. I have an excel database that contains too many records for one worksheet, and this is the easiest way.

Magic again.
The names do not seem to be global but local to the sheet they were created in.

Amazing Andrew!
