This is a difficult one to quantify because its not undo merge or lock cell it’s the hope that some can tell how to stop the contents spreading across the empty cells to the right normally I put a column to the right with this <> and just past it down while i get on with the work and delet it afterwards, as I am using a method to find the last row I can not do this time, this is so annoying when you are trying to enter data within one of the column to the right that it has spread over <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Hi Educated,

There are several ways to prevent this:

1. Put something in the cell to the right--can even be an invisible space character. Excel will not allow text from a cell on the left to overwrite a cell that has text in it.

2. Expand the width of the column containing the cell you are entering data into. You can use column width AutoFit to automatically size the column exactly as needed.

3. Turn text wrapping on for the cell you are entering text into. Then expand the row height (again can use row height AutoFit) so that the text is all visible after wrapping to multiple lines.

great thanks forgot about the row height that will do the trick pete
