cell selection lags or slow

Hi all
I have just installed office 2016 and opened excel
Previous to this I was used to working with office 2000
It seems that there is a lag in selecting cells as though it is something like a pointer shadow
Is this some kind of selection I can use to switch this off... I cant find anything in excel options?
Can anyone help

You can customize Mouse pointer options in Mouse Settings in control panel.
