hi,
i was wondering if it is possible to plot categorical data on the Y axis and contiuous on the X axis in excel.
what i am trying to achieve is as follow (BTW, I know i can do this in reverse, but i need the categorical data on the Y axis).
as an example, my 4 y axis variables have the following values (colour .48, depth .17, clarity .69, lum .89)
for each y category, a gradient shaded bar from light colour(low value) to dark colour(high value will run the full length of the x axis), and then i want to plot the point within that bar. i have a pool of about up to about 50 y variables that i will plot, but it will vary by run, so i need to hide the rows with no data so they do not plot. if i substitute numbers (i.e. 1 to 4) for my y variables and do a scatter plot, i can get it to work, but i need to see my y variable labels on the y axis, not the numbers.
i would be ever so grateful if someone could point me in the right direction!!!

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
Personally, I'm sure this is do-able somehow, but I just don't understand the sample data you've given.
Can you clarify please ?
Don't bother explaining what the data actually relates to in real life, just focus on explaining exactly how you want the numbers to be represented ?
