CHOOSE - works for values, but what about letters?

What else can I use when cells in a validation range are alpha numeric?


Validation Range A1:A10 .................................. Range is stored W1:W10

IF Validation Range drop down selection equals "767" (W7)


I would like to have J1=X1 (informationed stored in the next column from 767.
